About the exhibition
Before the Gesture attends to states that have not yet fully appeared. Interactive installation, sculpture and costume allow an absent body to regain a sense of presence through vibration, touch, sound and structure. The curatorial statement moves between action and stillness, body and object: traces of gestures coexist with possibilities still becoming.
The setting is inspired by a Victorian dollhouse, linking the body, clothing, memory and home. The unit is curated by Yuxing Chen, with art direction by Yiqi Kong.
Participating artists are Lotem Rozen, Kirsi Pirhonen, Gigi Chon, Yiqi Kong, Xintong Xu (Sylvie), Qianrong Huang (Rory) and Yannick Lalardy. Follow on-site signs about touching the exhibits.
