Review Application FAQ
These answers apply to review requests submitted to ShowTalk by productions appearing at Camden Fringe 2026. If show information changes, refer to the official festival listing and the latest confirmation email from ShowTalk.
Eligibility and applications
Which productions can apply?
Productions listed in the official Camden Fringe 2026 programme may apply, including theatre, comedy, dance, music, opera, improv, immersive work, family shows and cross-genre projects. The applicant should be a company, producer, artist or authorised press representative.
Our company has more than one show. How should we apply?
Submit a separate application for each production. For the same production, send only one main application and list all performances available for review.
How should we submit an application?
Email the complete information to press@showtalk.org with the subject line “Camden Fringe Review Application + Production Title”. Please do not apply through social-media direct messages or resend the same full submission through several channels.
Can we request a particular critic?
No. ShowTalk assigns critics internally according to availability, genre, cultural context and conflicts of interest.
Selection and outcomes
Does an application guarantee a review?
No. An application places the production under editorial consideration. Coverage depends on editorial value, critic availability, the completeness of the submission, ticket confirmation, the balance of festival coverage and team capacity.
How does ShowTalk select coverage?
We consider whether a suitable critic can attend without a conflict of interest, whether the production offers a useful critical angle, whether it adds variety across dates, venues, genres and scales, and whether facts, credits, image permissions and contact information are complete.
Will a well-known company, more tickets or a promise to share the article improve our chances?
No. Production budget, company profile, the number of complimentary tickets and promises of social sharing are not selection advantages.
Does the absence of coverage mean that ShowTalk considers the production poor?
No. In most cases, an application cannot be accommodated because of scheduling, travel, critic matching or editorial capacity. It should not be interpreted as a judgement on the quality of the work.
When will we receive a decision?
ShowTalk will reply to the address used to send the application when a proposed performance can be confirmed. Because application volume and schedules may change, we do not promise a fixed response time. Please use accurate contact details and check your spam folder.
Tickets and attendance
Do we need to provide a ticket when applying?
No. Submit the information first. Only provide a complimentary ticket after ShowTalk proposes coverage and both sides confirm the performance, ticket name and collection method.
How many tickets should we provide?
State the number available in the application email. ShowTalk will confirm the number required when arranging attendance, and the final agreement between both sides will apply.
Why might attendance change after a ticket has been confirmed?
A critic may be unable to attend because of scheduling, travel, health, safety or circumstances beyond our control. ShowTalk will contact the production as soon as reasonably possible if attendance must be amended or cancelled. A confirmed ticket does not itself guarantee publication.
What should we do if the performance is cancelled, rescheduled or moved?
Reply immediately using the contact details in the confirmation email, stating the production title, original performance and new arrangements. For last-minute changes, also contact the agreed day-of-show representative.
Editorial independence and publication
Does a complimentary ticket guarantee a positive or five-star review?
No. A ticket enables attendance only. It does not affect the conclusion, rating, wording, angle or publication date. ShowTalk's critics and editors retain independent judgement.
Can the production see or approve the article before publication?
No. The production cannot approve the full article or its opinions in advance. It may provide accurate materials beforehand and contact ShowTalk after publication about a verifiable factual error.
If we disagree with the review, can we ask for a rewrite, rating change or removal?
A difference of opinion is not grounds for rewriting, changing a rating or removing an article. ShowTalk will investigate verifiable factual errors, such as names, dates, venues or creative credits, and correct them where appropriate under its editorial process.
Will every review receive a star rating?
Not necessarily. Ratings depend on the relevant section and editorial format. A complimentary ticket does not affect whether a rating is used or what that rating may be.
Will every review appear in both English and Chinese?
Yes. Under ShowTalk’s editorial policy, every review will be published in both English and Chinese. As the productions are staged in the UK, most are presented in English. If the production title, company name, or the names of creatives and cast members have official or preferred Chinese translations, please include them in the application email. ShowTalk will respect and give priority to the translations supplied by the production.
Will the article be published before the production closes?
ShowTalk schedules publication around attendance, editing and fact-checking. We do not promise a fixed date or guarantee that an article will appear before the final performance.
Can the production share a published review?
Yes. You may share the article link while retaining the ShowTalk and author credits. Without permission, do not reproduce the full article, alter its headline or turn quotations into promotional material that could misrepresent the review.
